Ardous Engineering provides advanced materials R&D, physics-based thermal and radiative modeling, high-fidelity simulation, and DOE-aligned V&V to prime contractors on NNSA, DOE-NE, and DOE-EM programs.
Physics-based computational models for thermal emission and radiative heat transfer, built from first principles using fluctuational electrodynamics. The Principal Engineer developed and characterized nanostructured silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon dioxide materials for thermal emission control. The original research has results published in Physical Review B, the Journal of Applied Physics, and the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer. These methods apply directly to reactor component thermal analysis, fuel cladding radiative properties, and waste storage system thermal modeling. USPTO patent filing held by Principal Engineer Dr. Joseph McKay.
Ansys Mechanical for finite element analysis (FEA) including linear stress, vibration, and thermal loading. Ansys Fluent for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and fluid-thermal coupling. Custom MATLAB simulation frameworks for problems where commercial tools are insufficient. The Principal Engineer has executed large-scale simulations on high performance computing (HPC) clusters. For production work requiring HPC resources, we coordinate cloud-based or partner computing access as needed.
Verification and validation (V&V) packages including convergence testing, mesh sensitivity studies, benchmarking against analytical solutions and peer-reviewed datasets, uncertainty quantification (UQ), and risk documentation. The Principal Engineer has applied these practices to produce results that withstood peer review for journal publication and supported National Science Foundation (NSF) milestone deliveries on project 2130083. V&V packages are structured to DOE Order 414.1D and ASME V&V standards, with deliverables organized for traceability and defensibility on DOE program reviews.
Ardous Engineering and Research LLC translates concepts of operations (ConOps) into technical requirements, develops design-of-experiments plans, and builds verification and test strategies. The Principal Engineer has delivered requirements and verification plans that supported NSF milestone reviews and brings this experience directly to DOE and NNSA task orders.
We are structured to perform as a technical subcontractor to prime contractors on DOE and NNSA programs. Our model is to embed our Principal Engineer as a subject matter expert on your team, delivering milestone-based technical work with clear documentation and regular progress reporting. Our Principal Engineer has a track record of on-time delivery on federally funded research under NSF Award 2130083 and can provide references from program stakeholders.
